WHAT THE HEAL+H?

A Look Inside the
Inspiration Behind
Whatever This Is

heal+h cover art

In a whatishappening.today exclusive interview, we had a mental conversation with A child of th? universe to try and understand, if possible, the driving forces behind his album titled ʜᴇᴀʟ̲+ʜ.Acotu: EEP.What?A: You said 'album'. I prefer the term EEP (Extended Extended Play) because it's very brief at around 30min, longer than an EP tho because it's 9ish songs. When I make an LP it will be around 1hr. LEP (Long Extended Play) would be like 45min. ELEP gets closer to 50min. ELP ~ 1hr 30min, LLP 2hr and RLP (Really Long Play) could be like 3-12hr. Also, 'EEP' might be the sound people make when they listen to it.

Would you care to explain some of your artistic inspiration for this project.A: Life crazy. All I can knowHad big mind boom. Man find brain and had large mind boom explosion and brains everywhereAfter big mind boom came the long dark. Long dark, bad. Lonely and confusion but also with friends and time.Different brain now, very often think of thing beyond mundane, how to make mundane more magic. How do you manage your creative thought process?A: Notes App. During the long dark, man had Notes App. Over 3 thousand note inside, for eyes? No, not for eyes. For thumbs and mind of only man who cannot know beyond itself..

notes app

What do you tend to write about? How do you use/organize your notes?A: Mental doodle. sometimes they end up being things i believe should be shared and sometimes they end up being things that should have never existed.I enjoy experimenting with characters/fonts

each note is a moment where i had something in my mind that was valuable or novel enough to warrant documenting. grocery lists, philosophical ramblings, barsif i had some nice words in my head while doing the dishes, gotta run to my phone/computer and jot it down. or if i was rapping & driving, i'd speech-to-text record it for later.now i'm more interested in trusting that whatever needs to be said will revisit me during a recording session. that way i can start to rebuild a deeper level of trust with the world.Could you sample a recent note for us?A: "When I wake up, I’ll feel a little better than I used to"Wow that sounds very emo. Have you considered making music that's more lighthearted? You're kinda freaking people out.A: Yeah I have, and I am. I think about my trauma so often throughout my day, each day. I'm now realizing that maybe not everyone is like that so having themes that are so trauma-focused can be uncomfortable.I'd like my music to act as an emotional escape, and it does — for me. it's a place where my ??? feels understood. unfortunately, asking others to listen to that isn't necessarily fair to them, & kinda effed my life up.¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What kinds of themes can we expect from this project? It's an honest, linear representation of my experiences navigating brain hurt. Kinda lays the Acotu groundwork. Like a super-villain origin story, misunderstood but knowing that my true alignment is chaotic goodAnd it's not like anyone is going to be able to listen/understand right away, though at one point i thought that was possible. So hopefully now there's some aesthetic quality that is musically interesting, regardless of the poetry.Did you feel any sense of progression as a musician?Yes, the whole thing was an exercise in distilling ideas. There were also some strides in terms of making the production full & rich. Working with a mastering engineer was another lesson on bringing people into my process. If I didn't have anyone else involved it would never get finished.A lot of this material was made before I had the technical understanding to support my vision. I made the decision to 'figure it out' by working with those subpar recordings/ project files & capturing that season of my life, in memory of the kid who first discovered my passion for music production.and while I wish he wasn't so careless & reckless in his efforts... what else could he have been?I'm getting better lol. ➕

head injuries could be key to success

As players' safety and well-being slowly becomes a priority, fitness experts are left puzzled regarding injured participants — and if they might have an edge over the competition.

Mental athlete Acotu recently spoke about his training performance amidst health concerns during a pre-season press conference."It's been a real journey, ya know, we're just stoked to get back on the field, and just show up, ya know," Acotu told reporters. "We're working hard, we're out there working, ya know, and every once in a while you'll get knocked around, ya know. If you're gonna work hard, and show up, ya know... you're gonna... you're gonna get knocked around."Deficit of cognitive function on full display, Acotu's constant searching for words was worrying. But, surprisingly, he always found them."Brain hurt, ya know. I call it 'brain hurt'. It's a general achiness around my brain/thought area, ya know. Sometimes I think I know something, and then I'll second guess myself, it just gets confusing. Sometimes it feels like I don't know, ya know?"The room of reporters were quiet, and nobody really knew what Acotu was trying to say. Some stood up and left, as he had been aimlessly rambling for close to 45 minutes at this point."Truthfully, I always know what I'm trying to say, ya know? But when it comes out I can see how individuals with specific personal biases or disagreements will take what I say in whatever direction they choose. They think that I'm unhealthy for being contrarian, but I think they're unhealthy for being apathetic. And we're just at a stalemate, ya know."

Acotu, a proponent for league overhaul, feels he is often sidelined for his injuries.

"I suffered these injuries because of the rowdy conditions we're forced to play in," he explains. "If I want to stand up and tell the crowd why I feel the way I do, ya know... they don't want that. There's a game going on and that's more important to watch. So now, when I watch the game, the things that they cheer for and boo at, ya know... to me it's all wrong. It's all wrong to me, because I see moments of injury, ya know... but they don't have that frame of reference... maybe. I don't know."When asked about specific grievances, Acotu was quick to criticize the league's leadership. We don't condone that sort of behavior because this newspaper is owned by league executives."Despite how frustrating it is for me, to struggle like this, ya know... it's liberating in a strange way. Because I have a different view that can't be so easily anticipated. I read the papers and think, 'oh, that's how they're trying to get in my head'. Other teams don't know what plays to run on me, because I operate differently, ya know. I don't even know how I operate."League play resumes on Memorial Day Weekend, and Acotu is looking forward to it."It's special for me, because that's the day of my injury. Actually, it falls on a Friday this year, and the last time it was a Friday was 6 years ago, ya know. And I was injured around Friday May 27th, 2016, 6 years ago. So it's the first time I'm returning to that day, Friday May 27th. I didn't sleep that weekend, ya know, because I was in so much pain. And maybe if people knew that about my situation, ya know... maybe they'd start to see why I play so hard. Because I feel like they don't see that yet."

"MOVED ITS BODY LIKE A CYCLONE"

Speculated to be the first-ever scientifically documented proof of God, climatologists were shocked to discover a causal link between Amazon® warehouse locations and tornado paths. What began as a long-term study to identify midwest climate change patterns has turned into a shocking phenomenon. (ᴄᴏɴᴛɪɴᴜᴇᴅ ɪɴ W1)

Over here it's lookin like:

& over there you're lookin at

(W1 ᴄᴏɴᴛɪɴᴜᴇᴅ) Scientists say they initially identified this pattern upon inspection of an extreme outlier which took place earlier this year."We were actively gathering some fascinating data, in this instance a tornado had started out routinely with a path anticipated to span roughly 3 miles," explains lead scientist Lee D'Scientiste. "Precisely where we expected some dissipation, it immediately made a sharp left turn."Clearly, this was cause for some concern. It might involve further warnings to shelter or evacuate, or redistribution of first aid responders and damage control. But scientists couldn't help to feel some sort of excitement as witnesses to this event."If you look at the CCTV footage — it was at an intersection, where it turned — and, if you look... It's like the cyclone was waiting for the light to turn green, because it proceeded to make a completely legal left turn."News helicopters had been alerted to the unfolding story, which was quickly taking priority. People love talking about climate change and this was sure to be a hit."So, it's... it's continuing over the water, now headed towards an industrial park type zone, but there's a highway interchange up ahead. Busy interstate. Among some traffic there's a USPS truck approaching." D'Scientiste is referring to the helicopter footage, instrumental in their efforts towards understanding the event. It's been studied to the point of near-memorization.

"At this moment the tornado's forward movement is quite slow, about 7 miles per hour, and the USPS courier passes through without any trouble. But soon after, like 30 seconds after, the tornado just accelerates. A sudden 400% increase in forward movement speed. We've never seen anything like it. And it accelerates straight through the bridge just as an Amazon truck is crossing. It was crazy."Miraculously, there were no injuries throughout the entire 4-hour ordeal, despite damages totalling over 2 billion dollars to Amazon warehouses and 3 bajillion dollars to city infrastructure. We managed to hear some words from the Amazon delivery driver himself, Michael Jorgensen."Yeah it was nuts," recounts Jorgensen. "I figured I was just going to barely squeeze by, but... it took me out quick. The cyclone picked me up and I got kinda twirled around, then gently lowered to the ground to a rest, upside-down. Hey, hehe, that kinda rhymed."Jorgensen was already travelling 35 miles over the speed limit to his next delivery, but that wasn't enough to beat the tornado.

"I was on thin ice — professionally speaking — so I had to hurry or else I'd lose my job. Funny enough, by the time the dust settled and I was rescued by EMT services, I checked my phone and they had fired me already. I'm also being sued for destruction of company property."The cyclone would go on to flatten 8 Amazon fulfillment centers, drawing a heart pattern with chilling accuracy. Multiple religious movements have emerged from within the company, such as the Church of the Vortex and the Heart's Wind Followers. They believe that humanity's same-day delivery of Judgment has been delayed, and we must open a chat session with ascendent support agents.Amazon has yet to comment, because despite our shared network of instantaneous global communication, corporate & government interests are shrouded in something which considers inclusive human well-being to be extraneous hey look over there!

Acotu's HEAL+H: GOOD, OR POOR?

If there's one word to describe Acotu's music, it would be Huh? That sentiment holds true with his new project, the whole time I was like Huh? And when I paused it and did something else for a while I was like ok, but then I accidentally hit play again when it was in my pocket and I was like Huh?That's the crazy part though, because Acotu wasn't like Huh? he's like Yeah. And so if he's all Yeah. when we go Huh? then it's like he's oblivious to our Huh? so we just go Lol... And music should be like more of a Yeah!! so he's just off. Not only because the Huh? is cringe, but also because his Yeah. is Lol...Personally, I get really confused when I think about Acotu's ʜᴇᴀʟ̲+ʜ. Because on one hand it's like, wow, that's definitely an idea. But on the other hand, just the idea of it... it's all tough to digest. And indigestion is definitely not healthy.During some of the album my head was nodding, but I think that's because the music started playing as they were reading my order back to me in the Chik-Fil-A line. I must have been fumbling with my phone to open the rewards app. The drive-thru attendant was like 'my pleasure', so maybe she liked it.

BREAKING: ACOTU FITS INTO A GENRE

[Recent Spotify Wrapped data reveals an obscure microgenre which might actually encompass Acotu's entire discography. It's called escape room, which was coined by some guy."I made up the name myself, because I couldn’t figure out any existing one to apply. The vibe is kind of an underground-trap/PC-music/indietronic/activist-hip-hop kind of thing, and I thought of “escape room” both for the sense of escaping from trap, and for the ideas of excitement, puzzle-solving and indoorness implied by the actual physical escape-room phenomenon."
So yea. It's possible that escape room is more dependent on the listening experience than the instrumentation itself. More than anything, these microgenres are the labeling of moments in data where an overlap in listenership is clear, but a common musical thread is not. Sounds can range from house to trap to rap to indie rnb to bedroom pop to alternative to hyperpop etc, with a dash of refined, amateur craftsmanship. Whereas genres used to define the music, now they define the audience. It's a product of the DIY tools we're afforded to create a wide variety musical ideas. Music that might exist in the background, but is most appreciated when it's the focus of your moment. It isn't necessarily conceptual, but it is always interesting and/or detailed. And whereas hyperpop usually necessitates a manic energy, escape room isn't so sonically defined. If you aren't tuned in, you might not feel the vibe. But, if you listen to the music, it might take you somewhere.Official Spotify playlist ↗
